5 car camping meals that will satisfy the whole family.
Need some quick and easy camp food ideas? I got you! Personally I’m not a huge fan of camp cooking but I do have some tricks to stay out of the camp kitchen and maximize your camp experience.
Breakfast can be a challenge when you are camping. There are the good old standbys of bagels and cream cheese, but with a little prep time you can enjoy a great breakfast burrito without the mess. cook up your eggs, throw in some frozen hash browns, and sausage or pre cooked bacon, add some cheese and roll up in a tortilla. Wrap these in foil and throw in a gallon ziplock bag. When you get your fire going in the morning simply throw the wrapped burrito on the grill and enjoy once it’s hot. Grab those hot sauce packets for extra kick.
Walking Tacos are easy to prep and heat over the fire. Simply cook up your meet and beans (great veggie friendly option) at home and seal up in ziplock bags. Cut up grape tomatoes, a bag of shredded cheese, and shred some lettuce. Throw in some packets of hot sauce and you are set. Pro tip from our Des Moines member Kelly, crunch up your chips before adding your meats and cheeses.
The ol Hawaiian roll sammies! These are a crowd pleaser. You can have them prepped and ready to eat when you arrive at the camp site. Simple cut the whole pack of rolls in half and layer with your favorite meat and cheese (or just cheese for veggie friendly). Put the top back on and shove it back in the bag. Place at the top of your cooler and you have easy sandwiches ready to go.
Salad at camp? Why not! Sometimes camp food can be a bit heavy and meat centered. Our hack here is to throw together a beautiful salad with bag lettuce, fresh or grilled peaches, candied pecans, and burrata cheese. You can grab those easy packets of Italian dressing or bring a whole bottle. Yes, fancy camp salad is that easy!
S’more hack is to use fudge stripe cookies instead of graham crackers and chocolate bars. Simply toast that marshmallow and sandwich between the cookies!
